Holiday Update Series: November 2012

Hi everyone!

Welcome to our holiday update series! You may have noticed things have been a bit quieter around the blogosphere world. It's just that we were so involved in the real world that documenting it all didn't quite make it onto the to do list. However! Assuming we have interested readers, I thought we could introduce our Holiday Series. Rather one large post, we'll whet your appetite for what we've been up to with an innovative  hold-your-attention combindation of pics+words.

So, where were we?

Oh yes...November!

Climbing out of a hole in the ground...all part of the Death Walk.
As mentioned in the last post, Stephen & I attended the RMIT Staff Conference. As well as reading the Bible and dreaming up plans for 2013, we participated in the annual Death Walk. We're not normally into mucking around with such a serious topic, but the Death Walk was all about survival and keeping one's pride. Let's just say we completed the former part of that experience.
The Death Walk got us literally close to the ground...at some points, even crawling through it.
Triumphantly conquering the crossing.

Not even a bit of water would stop us marching through the bush.

In the following week, on the 21 November we drove to Adelaide, for what would be one of our longest stays yet. To begin the weekend, from 23-25 Nov, Sarah went to a friend's Hen's Weekend. It was in a beautiful holiday shack right next to the mighty Murray River. Yes, so much serenity indeed.

For me (Sarah), one of the highlights was the fun of kayaking around the river! Here we are, early in the morning, waiting to hit the water...

Photo below: That's Sarah on the left in the black kayak. In hot pursuit was Cassie, the Hen of Honour of the weekend, threatening to push me off. I deny everything, but apparently I agreed to a Gladiator-style challenge on the river. Long story short, I didn't win, and ended up in the water.

But we weren't in Adelaide for play only. Our work was cut out for us with the Trinity Bay Christmas in Schools program (26 November - 3 December, 2012). Together with a FANTASTIC team of uni students from Sydney, we went to about 8 schools and gave a Christmas presentation to hundreds of primary school students. Our theme was Christmas with a BANG! and explained why Jesus makes Christmas such a special and exciting time. A highlight of the program was Stephen's sin illustration. What? That doesn't sound like a highlight? Oh wait, I forgot to mention...it involved SLIME!! Not only did we have slime...we MADE the slime in front of them. Yes! The kids were very excited too!

Here are a couple of pics...

Stephen, the Scientist, with his two assistants, survey a crowd of very willing volunteers for the 'dirt' experiment.

Getting ready to make slime. Oh, and there was a puppet too :-)

As well as participating in the Christmas mission at Trinity Bay, we LOVED seeing our church family again. We got to go to heaps of the church services, including the awesome Beach Church.

So that's November 2012! Stay tuned for the next instalment in our Holiday Update Series. You guessed it...December!
