Holiday Update Series: January 2013

Welcome back!
This is the finale in the thrilling trilogy of the Urmston holidays, 2012.
Read about December here.
Read about November here.

This entire edition written by Sarah.

In our last edition, we left you, dear reader, on a slight cliffhanger. Mr Urmston was living it up working his guts out at a Beach Mission in sunny Queensland, while Mrs Urmston was in recovery mode with friends in less-than-glamorous (but arguably just as pretty) South Australia.

I flew back to Melbourne on Wednesday 2 January for a final few days on my own. Every evening, Mr & Mrs Urmston spent lots of time on Skype/Google Hangout, pining to see one another again, (whilst making the most of the joy of starfishing in one's bed) counting the hours until the plane would touch down at the shed commonly referred to as Tiger Airways arrivals terminal.

On the evening of Saturday 5 January Stephen's plane touched down and the Urmstons were once again reunited!

In the following days, we enjoyed a mix of spending time together again, working at our local Video Ezy,. raising financial support for Sarah's traineeship and spending time together again. During this time, Sarah also caught up with her trainer, Heather, to undergo some training assessment for the ministry traineeship at RMIT. It was a thorough process, but I enjoyed getting to know Heather more, and her me, so that she can tailor my training to my strengths & weaknesses.

In what has now been dubbed the Week of Pain and Sickness (14-18 January, mark it in your diaries, folks), Stephen was unfortunately struck by bouts of acute abdominal pain (read: really really really bad tummy aches). Some ultrasounds, doctor appts, blood tests and wee test later, we're still not 100% certain what the problem was. In all likelihood, it was probably kidney stones (those of you who have experienced them are now wincing in sympathy. Yes, it was that bad). Thankfully, the pain only lasted for a few days and we will continue to keep an eye on Stephen's blood levels.

One special date for us in January is Australia Day. What we love most about Australia is the fact that it's the country in which we both met, and got married. Oh, and our wedding anniversary is on Australia Day. Getting a public holiday every year for the occasion is pretty darn awesome! Thus, on 26 January, we celebrated our 5 years of marriage with an outing to the Melbourne Zoo. I'd just gotten a little point & shoot camera, so had lots of fun taking millions of photos (seriously, check out my Facebook album!), with a special focus on the meerkats and the 8 day old baby elephant.

And that, my friends, was our January 2013 - the beginning of a very different year in Melbourne.
